VIA FRANCIGENA

The Via Francigena, or « road of the French », is a network of roads and paths that were used by the people living to the North of the Alps. The itinerary currently known by this name follows the route taken by Sigeric of Canterbury in the year 990. Since 2004, the Via Francigena is one of the only 24 trails having received the label “Council of Europe Cultural Route”, an honour shared with a significant number of Santiago de Compostela pilgrim routes.
